Thaweesak Srithongdee was born in 1970 and graduated from Silapakorn
University in Bangkok. His style is influenced by the surrealists,
but with a Thai touch. His paintings are usually in bright colours,
showing people in day to day situations - with a sensual touch
in a style which could probably be described as pop-erotic.
His newest show focuses on the transformation of bodies or body
parts, real or imaginative. Thaweesak is a keen observer of
people’s traits, and he enjoys absorbing impulses from
the bustling city of Bangkok. He then plays with the images
in his mind to transform or morph them into new images –
Neo-Morphs - which he draws and paints. Thaweesak has participated
in several art exhibitions in Thailand and has won awards from
Toshiba and Bangkok Bank, among others. Thaweesak had a successful
solo show in Amsterdam, Netherlands in 2000, and has also exhibited
in Germany (2000), Great Britain (2001) and Singapore (2001,
2003).
