"Infusing her photographs with movement and light, the artist alters the appearance of the familiar, as breezes transform reflections on clear water."
Blurring the distinction between photograph and painting, the impressionistic photography of Sandy Shum is a lush visual feast. She works by hand on the original photograph to create images infused with vibrant colours and rich textures. Sandy's images reflect seemingly ordinary moments that, when one pauses to watch, are indeed extraordinary.
Originally from California, Sandy has lived and traveled in Asia for over fifteen years. She now lives in Thailand on the Thai-Myanmar border. Formerly an engineer, she now devotes herself full-time to impressionistic photography. Sandy has solo exhibitions in Bangkok, Hong Kong, Kathmandu, Cambodia, and the US. Her images are held in private collections the world over.
The Impressionistic Photography exhibited at La Luna Gallery portray the rich cultural heritage of Thailand in the temples of Doi Suthep and the Buddhas of Sukothai. Daily life is represented with rice fields and the saffron robes of Thai monks.
"I wish to provide a moment to pause and reflect on the wonder and grace in the dreamlight of daily life."
