Natchai (Nat) was born in Nong Kai, one of the small villages along the Mekong River in north-eastern Thailand, but now lives and works in Bangkok. With an aptitude for art, Nat's first artistic experiences came with the chance to paint and repair temple murals. He went on to work with galleries in Samui, Phuket & Bangkok, specializing in commissioned portraits and reproductions of the of master artists. This technical experience and his own inner drive to create and reflect beauty became the core of an unconventional art education.
Nat's paintings can be described as both traditional and modern, His monumental canvases have a dual affect on the viewer, one feels at once excited by their vigour, and eased by their harmonious calm. Nat says, I work from my feelings and I always work when I am happy.
Natural beauty inspires Nat, in particular Thailand's rich array of tropical foliage and flowers. Working in his garden studio in Bangkok, the natural light there lends a rich intensity of colour and tone to his hyper-realistic contemporary naturalist paintings. Nat's studies have an explosive and unique quality of composition and colour, each painting positively glows with its own energy and vibrance.
