Artists:

Na Chanok Siemmai was born in 1979 in the town of Trang in the southern region of Thailand, but now lives and works in Chiang Mai, his studio surrounded by nature.  He graduated from the Printing Department, Faculty of Fine Arts of the Rajamagala Institute in 2003.

“For my inspiration I study and research the patterns on the Pate cloth which is the tradition weaving found in the southern part of Thailand.  By using the visual science principle to determine such aspects of the design as shape, colour, repeated patterns, texture and spaces, I can identify the origin and concept of each pattern.   In reproducing the patterns and textures in my artworks, I feel that I am helping to pass on the local traditions and culture,” he explains, “and also introducing them to the northern region of my country.”

Na Chanok Siemmai was a ‘Prize for Excellence’ in the 5th Life and Energy Competition of the Petroleum Authority of Thailand in 1999. He has also participated in several exhibitions in various venues throughout Thailand including the Toshiba Art Competition 2007.
