
Khin Maung Zaw was born in 1970 in Myeik in the Southern Tanintharyi Division of Myanmar. He started painting in 1988, and then studied at the State School of Fine Art in Yangon graduating in Painting in 1991. Subsequently, he continued his studies at the State School and graduated in Sculpture in 1994. During this time, he won the first prize for commercial art in 1991, and first prize in sculpture in 1994. To improve his understanding and techniques, he also studied under the master artists U Lun Gywe, U Tine Aye, U Myint San, U Thit Lwin Soe and U Myint Lwin.
He now works as a full-time artist and his preferred mediums are water colour, oil and pastel, his themes drawn from the daily life in Myanmar with monks and nuns, buffalo carts in the rain, and scenes of family at work and play. Khin Maung Zaw has presented his works in many exhibitions in both Myanmar and Singapore, and is now taking part in the Myanmar Exhibition at La Luna Gallery, Chiang Mai.
