Being one of only a few Vietnamese female artists using the demanding and time consuming medium of lacquer, Cong Kim Hoa is today recognized as a leading lacquerpainter. Other countries also use lacquer in art but Vietnam is the only place where this traditional medium has been adopted by contemporary and modern artists such as Hoa and her husband Trinh Tuan.
Hoas paintings appear to be abstract but looking closer one will often recognize the contours of lotus flowers, fish, masks, branches and other items combined with truly abstract shapes and expressions.
Hoa is a bachelor from Vietnam Fine Arts University and she has held and participated in exhibitions in more than 15 countries.
