British-born travel writer and photographer Charlotte Shalgosky has been
living in Asia since she was 21. Schooled in England, Belgium and China, she
speaks fluent Mandarin and French.
From 1998-2003, she left Asia to undertake a five year marathon expedition
during which she travelled to 38 countries, photographing and documenting
her voyages from the North Pole to Southern Africa
Many of her images have appeared in international journals and magazines. While
she currently fights to combat her wanderlust, she co-authors guidebooks to
Thailand and passionately attempts to pursue her love of photography.
Charlotte`s photos in La Luna show her very first series of
black and white photographs, taken from a hot air balloon over Bagan, Myanmar.
"The scenery was mesmerising" she says "with a heavy early morning mist over
the Irrawaddy and the spires peeping through the haze, the effect was to
give the place an amazingly eerie feeling".
Photography and the visual arts have always attracted
Shalgosky since she was young, she first dabbled in painting
and illustration as a teenager, then went on to work as
part of a team of documentary filmmakers in China in her
twenties. Colour, light and texture have always been a
huge influence in her life, and she says that photography
for her, is in many ways "a wonderful combination of all
those factors".
